Sign Ups Open + Rules Refresher!
Sign ups are open! They'll stay open until August 23 at 11:59 PM, MST. Remix madness sign ups will begin on August 24.
A few reminders:
What's the difference between the exchange and Remix Madness?
The main Remix Revival exchange is a traditional gift exchange. You will sign up with the understanding that you will create a remixed work for someone else and in return, someone will be assigned to create a remix for you. The rules for this collection are the same for any other gift exchange - we will not reveal the works until everyone who participated receives a gift, pinch hits will be posted here to the community, and works will be anonymous for first week.
The Madness round, on the other hand, is set up like a prompt claiming meme. There is no minimum for works created for Madness, and you do not have to be signed up for the main exchange to participate. You can remix as many works as you want, and you DO NOT have to opt in to be remixed in order to create works for other people.
Treats, aka extra works created for people you were not assigned to, are also posted to the Madness collection. There is no minimum/maximum limit on work size/type for treats either, and you can create as many as you want.
A few reminders! This is what you need in order to participate in the main Remix Revival exchange:
For each fandom in your requests, you must have:
The minimum limit on requested fandoms is one (1), so if you have only created works in one fandom, you can still sign up as long as there are at least a few of them. If you do not have enough qualifying works in any fandom to sign up for the main exchange, please feel free to opt into Remix Madness when signups have opened over there.
A qualifying work is a work that:
*If your works are posted outside of AO3, they should be easy to navigate via a masterpost or similar. Please don't link to a tumblr tag for your works unless they are in a single fandom, as your remixer should not get a headache trying to find your works in X fandom.
Can I denote a "safe" work - aka, one that is not allowed to be remixed by my creator?
Yes! However, you are limited to a MAXIMUM of:
Safe works and works within your safe series/safe fandom/safe pseud are completely off-limits to your remixer.
Safe work limits are per signup (not per request)
*In general, if you can request/offer a fandom, you can safe work that fandom as well. So you can safe work umbrella tags or "All Media Types" tags if you want to.
**"Safe pseuds" are intended for use by people with pre-existing pseuds only (ie, please don't make a brand-new pseud in order to safe work extra things). If it's abused or causes any problems, it will not be an option going forward.
If you want to receive a fic remix of your art or an art remix of your fic:
You're in luck there, too, as both requests and offers will allow you to indicate what kind of works you have, and what kind of works you would like to receive.
Fic Remixed As Fic = the traditional remix, where you'll receive or write a fic remixing another fic
Fic Remixed As Art = you'll receive an art remix for your fic, or offer an art remix for someone else's fic
Art Remixed As Art = you'll receive an art remix of your art, or draw a remix of someone else's art
Art Remixed As Fic = you'll receive a story remix of your art, or write a remix of someone else's art
Are there similar requirements to submit prompts for Remix Madness?
Nope. All that is required is that you have at least one fic available in the fandom you are requesting. There is no minimum requirement (the only rule is that works must be complete), and you can denote as many safe fics/fandoms as you want. You are more than welcome to say "please only remix x, y, and z" or whatever other specific request you have. It truly is a free-for-fall, the reason being that they are prompts available to claim rather than assignments.
For FAQs and the full rules for both Remix Revival and Remix Madness, please check the collections at AO3.
- To sign up, you must have a minimum of three (3) 500-word fics, a minimum of five (5) 100-word fics, or a minimum of three (3) drawings in each requested fandom. Your qualifying fic/art should already be at the URL you provide when you sign up.
- You may include up to 20 fandoms per request; it is not necessary to have more than one request unless you have a reason for splitting your offers (like you want to receive fic for some fandoms but would prefer art for other fandoms).
- You may leave the text box blank if you don't have any safe works/previous remixes.
- If you're a writer, you want to choose Fic Remixed As Fic and/or Fic Remixed As Art, depending on your preferences. If you're an artist, you want to choose Art Remixed As Art and/or Art Remixed As Fic. If you have enough qualifying fic AND art in your requested fandoms, you can do both. If you have fic and art in different fandoms, or want to request different things in different fandoms, you can add a second request.
- The URL you include for your work MUST be easily navigated by fandom. This means you must either link to your AO3 dashboard/works page, OR an index elsewhere that has your works sorted by fandom. Unless you have only/primarily written/drawn in a single fandom, you should NOT link to a general fic/art tag on your tumblr. The reason for this is that while your remixer can do something in a different fandom than you matched on, they must still be able to easily find your works in the fandom you matched on.
- You are limited to 3 individual safe works, 1 safe series, and/or 1 safe fandom per signup (not per request). Safe fandoms may be an umbrella fandom or "all media types" fandom.
- All fandoms in your request must be AO3 canonical tags. Whenever possible, choose the most unique version of your fandom (i.e., "Captain America: The Winter Soldier (2014)" instead of "Marvel Cinematic Universe.")

A qualifying work is a work that:

AO3 told me:
"Sorry! We couldn't save this challenge signup because:
You must submit between 1 and 2 offers to sign up for this challenge. You currently have 12.
You must submit between 1 and 2 requests to sign up for this challenge. You currently have 7."

It will work the same with offers: you'll combine all your fandoms into one. You'll be matched on 1 medium (fic remixed as fic, fic remixed as art, etc etc) + 1 fandom. If you look at the request summary you can see examples if that helps. Does that make sense?

On the other hand, is art I drew for a Reverse Bang eligible for remixing, since it was the original fanwork, and created solely by me (even though it has technically been remixed before, by the Reverse Bang writer who claimed it)?
Thanks - this looks really fun!

If there was a certain piece that you really wanted to make eligible, if you obtained permission from the other creator/s involved, I would accept that! I'm not sure what the previous mod did in those cases but I'd be comfortable with allowing that.
In the case of a Reverse Bang, I think since the fic in those challenges are meant to be a response/interpretation of your piece, which was the original, that's less of a collaboration and more of a work that's been remixed at one point by someone else, if that makes sense. (ETA: I realize now that I just repeated exactly what you said in your comment, sorry!! Long day, lmfao.) I would maybe put a note in your sign up to your potential remixer to remind them to focus on your work only, however.

i have several works on ao3 in a fandom i would like to add to my requests, that i previously hosted on another account (as i wanted it more separate than a pseud). they are now listed as being authored both by that account and my main account -- so question: should i make a note in my sign-up that this is the case and these works are eligible?
