As signups continue for Remix Revival 2017, several reminders:

1. In order to request any fandom, you must qualify to be remixed in that fandom! This means you must have a certain number of works for that fandom on your account. The minimums are: three fics of at least 500 words OR five fics of at least 100 words OR three drawings per requested fandom.

If you only have 1-2 works in a fandom, you may not request it. If you have 3 works in a fandom, but one is a WIP/remix/under 500 words/etc, you may not request it. If you have requested any fandoms without having enough works, those fandoms will be deleted from your requests after signups close; if you don’t have enough works in any of the fandoms you requested, your entire signup will have to be deleted.

Long story short, the more cleaning up I have to do after signups close, the longer it will take to send assignments out. So please make sure your signup is correct. Thanks!

2. Please remember that your remixer will be able to remix any available work by you, whether you requested that fandom or not! If you have written in fandoms A through G, but only request fandoms A and B, fandoms C through G will still be available to your remixer unless they are otherwise ineligible (”safe,” WIPs, collaborations, etc).

Additionally, there is a maximum to the number of “safe” works you can have: up to 3 individual safe works, and/or 1 safe series, and/or 1 safe fandom per signup (not per request).

Hey guys! Just a few more days until signups start! :DDDD

I've made a tumblr: Remix Revival tumblr. There's nothing there yet, but I plan to crosspost just about everything except pinch hits to both places (pinch hits will be posted to DW, and linked to from the tumblr).

That's it for now, I think.

Just a quick update to say that, as it is July 1 and Remix Redux has not put out a schedule for this year, Remix Revival WILL be happening. Signups will open two weeks from today. The full schedule will be as follows:

Signups begin: July 15
Signups end: July 30 11:59 PM ET
Assignments out by: August 5
Assignments due: September 10, 11:59 PM ET
Collection goes live: September 17
Remixers revealed: September 24

The AO3 collection is here.

If you have any questions/concerns/suggestions, you can leave a comment on any post here. I am open to making rule changes etc until signups open, at which point I will be very reluctant to change anything unless it's absolutely necessary.

It's not July 1 yet, but I am fully expecting this exchange to go forward, so I've been doing some behind the scenes work, including figuring out fandoms.

The last two times Remix Redux ran, it allowed people to choose fandoms freely, and I'm inclined to do the same. If this presents huge problems this year, fandoms will be added to the tag set for next year.

Here are the current guidelines for how to offer/request fandoms. If there's anything I left out, or that is confusing or needs clarification, please let me know! This information will also be included near the top of the sign-up form.

  • All fandoms must be an AO3 canonical tag.

  • Use the most specific AO3 canonical whenever possible. If you have a bunch of Steve/Bucky fics, and that's all you've written in the MCU, you should request Captain America (Movies), NOT Marvel Cinematic Universe.

  • That said, umbrella tags can be used if you don't quite qualify in the individual fandoms beneath the umbrella - ie, if you have 1 Captain America (Movies) drawing, 1 The Avengers (Marvel Movies) drawing, and 2 Thor (Movies) drawings, then Marvel Cinematic Universe would be a great choice for you.

  • You can also request an umbrella tag if you have many fics/drawings in more than one fandom beneath that umbrella - but in that case, I'd suggest requesting the individual fandoms as well.

  • In most cases, you shouldn't request "All Media Types" tags UNLESS that is the accepted standard in that fandom.

  • In some cases, the only tag AO3 offers for a fandom IS the umbrella tag - for instance, you can't request Terminator Genisys (2015), you have to request Terminator (Movies). Similarly, you can't request X-Men: First Class (2011), you have to request X-Men (Alternate Timeline Movies). In cases like this, go with the tag that is available.

  • If you offer an umbrella fandom or "All Media Types," do so with the understanding that you could be committing to remixing ANY of the fandoms included in that. This includes fandoms that only have an umbrella tag available, as mentioned above.

  • If you are requesting something that needs explanation (for example, if you're requesting MCU but none of your Iron Man, Captain America, etc fics are tagged MCU), please clarify the text area of your signup.

ETA May 14: The AO3 collection is located here! I am tentatively planning to start signups on July 15, but the schedule could be pushed back a week or even two if needed (but I consider that unlikely at this point). Either way, it will be set for sure by July 1.

Remix has always been my favorite fic exchange, and I wanted to ensure that, no matter what, there will be a panfandom remix exchange for 2017. Therefore, Remix Revival is a remix exchange tentatively scheduled to begin signups on July 15, 22, or 29 of this year (official schedule to come in late June/early July). Should Remix Redux put out an official 2017 schedule before July 1, Remix Revival will be canceled; otherwise, it will go forward.

I haven't put together the rules yet, but they will be very similar to the rules for other remix exchanges. There will be no nominations period; you'll be able to request any fandom you have enough qualifying works in, and you can offer anything. You will not be able to request/offer characters or sets of characters; everyone will be matched on fandom and medium (fic or art) only. The minimum required fandoms for both requests and offers will be 1. All fandoms except crossovers will be allowed for requests/offers, as crossovers would be nightmare to try to match without being able to specify characters or pairings like you can in other exchanges. You can still remix a crossover if your recip has written one, however.

Fic and art will both be allowed. If you're requesting to have fic remixed, you must have three stories of at least 500 words or five stories of at least 100 words per requested fandom. If you're requesting to have art remixed, you must have at least three finished drawings (no manips) per requested fandom.

Your writer/artist will be allowed to remix anything of yours that is complete, not itself a remix, not a collaboration, and not your safe work; they will NOT be limited to the fandoms in your request.

When remixing someone else's work, you may not change the pairings. This means that if a work only includes A/B, you may not remix it as A/C, D/E, A/B/C, etc. However, you may background the main pairing, or focus your remix around a background pairing from the original. If you are remixing a gen fic, the remix should be gen as well, unless a pairing was clearly mentioned somewhere in the original, in which case the remix may be about that pairing.

The other thing you may not change when remixing is the basic plot of the original story. This is much more flexible than the pairings rule, in that you are the one who decides what the basic plot is. As long as I can squint and see how the remix relates to the original, it's all good.

For the main exchange, you will most likely be allowed to designate up to 3 individual works + up to 1 series + up to 1 unrequested fandom as safe. Safe works/works within a safe series/works for a safe fandom may NOT be remixed.

If you default on your assignment, you will not go to pinch hit should your remixer also default.

Remix Madness will not have any minimum requirements to request a fandom (except that it would be pointless to sign up if you don't have at least one eligible fic/drawing per requested fandom). You also will not have to sign up to be remixed in order to remix someone else for Remix Madness. You may have an unlimited number of safe works for Remix Madness.

Finally, remix is not a gift exchange. As long as you don't change the pairings or basic plot, you can do whatever you want with your assignment.

That's all the pertinent info I can think of for now. All of these rules are tentative and subject to change until the point signups begin. If you have any other questions, or have suggestions/concerns, feel free to ask here!
